'Girlboss' Cancelled: Where Netflix Went Wrong Article on: https://moviepilot.com/p/girlboss-cancelled-where-netflix-went-wrong/4308450 The term “girl boss” is said to refer to “a woman who is in charge of her own life. She gets what she wants because she works for it.” Credits: https://www.clozette.co/article/page/5-girl-bosses-and-their-style-uniforms-2726 I picked the Mae Pang Glitter Fossil Denim Zip Shirt (and wore it as a jacket) because it reminded me of the iconic jacket in the Netflix series.
I watched the entire series, and I admit though I've been tempted to pick up the book a few times, I never did. Maybe I should have. Do read the article that tells us why Netflix decided to pull the series. My few cents about it was that, yes, I did think the character in the show was a stuck up brat that did not give a damn about anyone and anything. But that shows you needed to transcend social norms if you want to do something new and different from the rest. She thieved and just took whatever she wanted, did whatever she did. That's a bit too much, in Singapore context especially. But what we could have learnt from that is that you need to do whatever it takes to get what you need done. She was an asshole to her dad, but that stemmed from him having the traditional expectations, and her childhood experiences of being hurt, because in the series she showed that sometimes people do hurt us (especially the more we care about them, the more hurt they cause), but we need to maintain a strong front, and then go cry about it secretly if we have to. Maybe I disagree with the judgment that the series character had no redeeming qualities, because she did show them from the middle of the series onwards, and they DID disclaim at the start of every episode that things are grossly exaggerated. Perhaps it was a sucky series for entertainment I guess, but if you're a girl boss and you're setting out with the mindset to learn, there ARE some things in there to learn from. #girlbossfamsg Peace out.
