Reasons why you should let your boyfriend play soccer.

9/4/2016

Honestly, the reason why I'm even writing this blog post is because I'm sitting at the SUTD bleachers.
It's horribly difficult to find the school field.

Where to park to get to the SUTD (changi) field/ Stadium:
There's only one carpark.
  • Drive towards building 3, as close to the way out as possible, then park.
  • Do not go up the ramp (because then you'd really be on your way out).
  • Walk up the ramp, and cross the road to the stadium. Fastest, i promise.
And I did it in barbie bimbotic shoes. So trust me.

12 Things Women Have in Common With Soccer

Really the title for this article should be: Singaporean reasons why you should let your boyfriend/husband play soccer, and support him at games if you are able to.
But that'll be too long a title. So here goes.

Reason 1: It's healthy and helps him to lose weight.

As long as you don't go for buffet, or over-compensate during the meal after the game, generally it's an intensive workout for most people. As Singaporean males go into the work place, you'll notice that a lot of companies actually have company soccer teams etc to promote a healthy lifestyle.
Attractive people bring in more business. Fact.
Regardless, unless you want your man to look like a ball so no other girl goes after him or something, rejoice that he's not a couch potato.

Reason 1a: It SUPPLEMENTS gym.

If your man doesn't gym, run around park connectors, works out usually to keep fit, refer back to Reason 1.
If not, Soccer and other team sports is a chance for him to interact with other men. Consider it the equivalent of... shopping at a different mall from the one closest to where you live. It's something different from routine, it's fresh, it's invigorating... You get the idea.

Reason 2: It's good bonding.

Accept that you will not be your man's priority all the time. It's unrealistic.
Some girls might feel that their man going to play soccer is taking away precious dating time.
Think about it, it's probably 2 or 3 hours. If you don't live together, you might not even realise how many of such time frames have passed. And let's face it, there are only how many things you can do in Singapore to date.
Allowing him time away from you allows him to breathe (so, let him go play soccer), while accompanying him is even better.

If you read Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, you'd know that men need time in their cave and solitude. Or simply freedom. So if you can let him play, AND support him, you're essentially locking down his heart really. Because you gave him the freedom and time to play, and whether he had fun, or if he had a bad game, he'll talk to you about it.
Being able to understand the moments he's griping over, makes you perfect in his eyes. Because you're more than just an active listener (which would be the best you can do if you were not at the game), it's a conversation.

Reason 3: Being proud of your man makes you his trophy.

If he does well, and scores, make sure you see it and are watching. Because definitely he'll look to the stands for your reaction. The worst thing you can do while you're on the stands is to scroll instagram and ignore the entire game. You might as well be screaming "I'm hating it here!!"
If he fell, don't run over to the middle of the field and start overreacting. It's not an American teen movie, and you're not his mom. But be there to just show care and concern after. Be sweet. Try not to scold him (a.k.a. his mom). NEVER embarrass him.
It also doesn't hurt if you dress up nice and let his friends reassure him that he's the luckiest man to have you ;)

Reason 4: Get to know the people he mixes with.

Especially if you're angling for a wedding ring.
If you don't care (which i don't, by the way), it's a good way to know the people he mixes with.
This is a mixed bag, you might find that his friends are douche bags, and maybe that guy you've been dating is a secret douche outside of date nights. --> DUMP HIM!!!
Otherwise, you'll find that you have just widened your own circle.
Sometimes it's really funny, and the people you meet turn out to be fun. Today a little girl said: "Why is daddy not playing? Daddy is just walking around!" Everyone who heard burst out laughing.

Reason 5: Respect and Love goes a Long way.

Most couples who are actively supportive, and involved in each other's lives make it.
You respect that it's part of his thing, and you give him the freedom to do it, that's pretty much reason enough. You'll find that when you give respect, you gain it back easily. On top of the respect you earn.
