Just heard from Kathy that there was a Knife stabbing incident in Kunming Flower Market tonight.
Apparently a lot of people visit the market at night to purchase fresh cut flowers for business the next day. And the attack couldnt be stopped because the man was stabbed several times. So i googled Kunming Flower Market Violence. Nothing. A lot of informative articles about visiting the market. So i added the word "News" in. And the search result finally gave some hits about violence, and it was from March 2014 about knife incidents where 33 people were injured. Knife? Naturally because the knives are used to chop the fresh flowers. However the interesting thing is that it doesnt make the english newsworld (?). Perhaps reported in chinese, but we wouldnt have read it because its not local, and how many of us read worldwide news in chinese right (Then again, i THINK my dad does). Food for thought. Broaden the antenna? How much do we not know? Peace out. Okay, so yesterday i decided to sign up for 3 courses.
One's a two-day seminar/workshop (lord, please make sure it's fun, and i stay awake through the two full days), and another two on Udemy. With my SkillsFuture Credit. You know, lifelong learning, government sponsored, subsidized etc. Which I'm honestly very thankful for. I mean, so many of us find it so difficult to juggle our various responsibilities. Coping is difficult enough, much less find the time to do more more more and constantly push ourselves to become a better version of who we are. Read more books, talk to more people, spend more time with our family and loved ones, eat healthy, exercise, and the list goes on. So actually not having to worry about "Spending" the money and not utilising whatever you paid for is no longer an issue, because the government has again, taken care of that. So when the opportunity comes, don't worry about it, just sign up and claim on the skillsfuture site. It's really easy to navigate! Cheers! On this day in 1918, at 11.00am - the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month - the First World War came to an end. Wikipedia says: The poppy is worn around the time of Remembrance Sunday (traditionally from All Souls' Day (November 2) until the latter of Remembrance Day (November 11) or Remembrance Sunday) The words "Poppy Appeal" is on the centre. Observation through parades and silence are held in the United Kingdom and the Common wealth. Remembrance Sunday is held in the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth as a day "to commemorate the contribution of British and Commonwealth military and civilian servicemen and women in the two World Wars and later conflicts". It is held on the second Sunday in November, the Sunday nearest to 11 November, Armistice Day, the anniversary of the end of hostilities in the First World War at 11 a.m. in 1918. This year it's on 13 November 2016, which is today.
The honor the countrymen give to those who have sacrificed for their countries. Perhaps people feel that soldiers in Singapore aren't given the same respect. But after all, we haven't actually been "tested" through a real war. And I hope that day never comes. But other than that, salute. |
